Chris Ray comes in to bail out Bedard in the eighth and hacks up a hairball as pinch hitter Todd Hollandsworth smacks a two-out grand slam. Game over.

W: Pote (1-0) L: Hawkins (0-1) Sv: Wickman (7)
Argh, argh, argh! Game turns into a slugfest when both starters get chased...Jason Michaels' 2 RBI single was the difference in the 6th.

BALTIMORE 10, Cleveland 2

O's stomp the Monsters to take one of three. Dustan Mohr with a HR, colley and Tejada with back-to-back triples, and Fidrych goes the distance, scattering seven hits, talking to the ball, and repairing the mound on his hands and knees.

Baltimore 2, OAKLAND 1
W: ratravarman (1-1) L: Haren (2-3) Sv: Cordero (6)
A quality start from ratravarman, striking out five; Fossum and Cordero complete the win. Gibbons singled in Hermida with the game-winner.

Mark Ellis saves the day for the A's in the ninth.
